Common Core Grade 7 The following information is derived from the Ohio Department of Education, Mathematics Common Core Standards (2011).
The concentration in 7th math grade focuses on four areas: (Domains -> Clusters)
Understanding and Application of proportions.
Percentage, Discounts, interest, taxes, tips, % increase or decrease
Similar objects (similar triangles, polygons, etc...)
Understanding/Graphing proportional and inverse relationships, slope
Rational Numbers, Expressions and Linear equations.
Fractions/Decimals/Percents are representations of rational numbers
Extend addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to all rational numbers
Negative numbers (real world quantities, i.e. amount owed, temperatures below zero, etc...)
Use of rational numbers and expressions to formulate equations in one variable.
Problem Solving w/Scale drawings, 2-D, and 3-D shapes to analyze area, surface area and volume.
Data analysis (inferences about populations based on samples).
Example
Domain: Expressions and Equations - 7.EE
Cluster: Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
Standard: 1) Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
